Police suspect that a teen driver who lost control of her vehicle Thursday afternoon - causing a crash near Americus that injured herself and two friends - had consumed alcoholic beverages.
Results of a blood test done after the wreck were pending this afternoon.
Marah E. Brenneman, 16, of Battle Ground is being treated at Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis for injuries to her hip. She was last listed in fair condition in the hospital's critical care unit, a Wishard spokesman said.
Two of her passengers, Kassandra R. Emrich, 17, of West Lafayette and David E. Cowgill, 19, of West Lafayette were treated Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center and released.
Lafayette police officer Tim Bonner, a crash reconstructionist with the Lafayette Metro Fatal Alcohol Crash Team, said officers found unopened containers of beer in the pickup truck that Brenneman was driving.
Police and emergency responders were called to the wreck about 4 p.m. Thursday on Grant Road near County Road 950 North in northeastern Tippecanoe County.
According to the FACT team, which is investigating the wreck, Brenneman was driving a 1988 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck north on Grant Street when she missed a sharp turn in the road.
The pickup went into a field and rolled 2 1/2 times, ejecting Cowgill and Trent Fitzmaurice, 18, of Buck Creek, who were riding in the truck's bed.
Fitzmaurice and another passenger, Jordan Wilson, 18, of Lafayette declined medical treatment at the scene.
Fitzmaurice had a blood-alcohol content of 0.10 percent after the wreck, according to a crash report filed by sheriff's deputy Jacob Amberger.
Cowgill had a BAC of 0.04 percent.
