Staff Reports

Police suspect that alcohol was a factor in a one-vehicle crash Wednesday night in eastern Tippecanoe County that injured the driver and his passenger.

James S. Brigham, 56, and Kristine M. Terry, 40, both of Lafayette, were listed in satisfactory condition this morning at Home Hospital.

Brigham was found pinned under the passenger side door of his Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, which struck a tree before flipping and landing on its side.

Terry was thrown about 15 feet from the impact.

The Tippecanoe County Metro Fatal Alcohol Crash Team is investigating.

According to Deputy Matt Couch of the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Department, it appears that Brigham was driving the pickup northwest on County Road 350 East when he went off the right side of the road about 7:46 p.m. Wednesday.

An opened bottle of Jack Daniel's whiskey lay in the grass about 10 feet away from where the truck landed.

After the crash, the truck's front driver's side wheel lay behind the vehicle next to the road, completely disconnected. At least one air bag deployed inside the truck.
