Staff Reports
Alcohol was a factor in a crash that seriously injured two people and closed Concord Road near 350 South for more than three hours Saturday evening, police said.
Lafayette police responded to the single-vehicle rollover at the intersection of Concord Road and Olympia Drive around 6:37 p.m.
Jordan T. Hopkins, 20, of Kokomo was ejected after he lost control of his vehicle, causing it to go off the roadway into a field, where it flipped several times. It was not immediately clear whether Hopkins had been wearing his seat belt when the vehicle left the road.
His passenger, Joshua A. Victor, 20, of Lafayette, was knocked unconscious and suffered head and shoulder injuries. He was wearing his seat belt and was not ejected.
Both men were transported to Home Hospital. Hopkins was in critical condition. Victor was in stable condition.
The Lafayette Metro Fatal Alcohol Crash Team was called to investigate and confirmed that alcohol was a factor in the crash, said FACT squad leader Lt. Sarah Sheppard of the Purdue Police Department.
One of the victims had told police a third person had been in the car when it crashed but had been confused, Sheppard said. There was not a third victim.
Concord Road, between Daugherty and Olympia drives, remained closed until about 10 p.m. as police continued their investigation.
Sheppard said the wreck remains under investigation.
