Staff Reports

A one-vehicle crash late Wednesday night injured three Lafayette teenagers -- driver Jennifer C. Trice, 19, and passengers Cassandra Kingma, 19, and Clorissa Knight, 16.

The trio was taken to Home Hospital. Trice and Kingma were treated and released. Knight was transported to Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis. The hospital does not release information on minors.

The Lafayette Metro Fatal Alcohol Crash Team assisted in the accident investigation.

The Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Department responded to the crash about 11:52 p.m. Wednesday in the 3700 block of Indiana 25 North.

The car, a 1997 Cadillac Catera, was southbound on Indiana 25 North when it went out of control and crossed the center line.

The car exited the east side of the roadway and hit a guide wire for a utility pole. The car then slid through the yard at 3733 Indiana 25 N., and the driver's side slammed into a large tree.

After further investigation, it was determined that alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Trice was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury and illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor. According to police records, she was arrested on June 14 on suspicion of underage consumption of alcohol.

She also had been arrested in early March on suspicion of theft.
