An Indianapolis woman is dead and a Lafayette man was hospitalized after a crash Monday evening on Interstate 65 that police suspect was alcohol-related.
Diane M. Snow, 57, of Indianapolis died at the scene of the 7:15 p.m. crash about four miles south of Indiana 38.
Evan J. Erickson, 27, of Lafayette, the driver of the car that caused the crash, was in good condition Tuesday evening at Home Hospital.
Police in Tippecanoe County typically do not release a blood-alcohol content until official charges are filed, but state police said Erickson's BAC exceeded 0.08 percent, the legal limit for driving in Indiana.
Erickson was driving north on Interstate 65 when he lost control of his 1990 Toyota Camry. The car went through the median, began rolling, went airborne and landed on top of Snow's southbound 2005 Honda Accord.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
State police said Erickson appeared at the scene to have suffered minor injuries. Police said he will be arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.
The Sheffield Township Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene. The Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Department helped divert southbound traffic off the interstate onto Indiana 38 while the wreck was being investigated.
A second wreck occurred nearby on the interstate, involving property damage only, which the sheriff's department also handled.
