A woman who crashed and flipped her car into
the Wabash River early Friday morning was able to escape only by
swimming out of the car's window, police say.
According to police, Jennifer E. Sorenson, 35,
of Chicago, Ill., swam through the half-open window of her Acura
Integra to the bank after the car crashed upside down into the
river just north of Chardonnay Drive on North River Road.
Sorenson was later arrested for operating a
vehicle while intoxicated.
Lt. Terry Ruley, of the Tippecanoe County
Sheriff's Department, said Sorenson was driving north on North
River Road at around 4:30 a.m. She apparently swerved off the
edge the pavement, tried to correct herself, lost control and
drove into the river, police said.
Ruley said Sorenson was not injured in the
accident.
