An Americus man accused of driving drunk and
causing a crash that killed a Delphi man Thursday night was back
in jail Monday.
Grant L. O'Leary, 24, is charged with drunken
driving causing death, reckless homicide and leaving the scene
of a fatal crash. He managed to post a $25,000 surety bond
Friday before prosecutors filed formal charges.
But a judge had O'Leary re-arrested Monday
morning on a no-bond warrant after prosecutors filed a petition
to revoke his probation.
Judge Michael Morrissey of Tippecanoe Superior
Court 6 issued the new warrant based on O'Leary's August
conviction for misdemeanor drunken driving in an unrelated case.
In Thursday night's case, police suspect
O'Leary was driving a 2002 Ford Mustang north on Indiana 25
south of Americus. He went left of center to pass slower traffic
and crashed into a southbound motorcycle driven by Jeremy L.
Kuns, 19, of Delphi. Kuns died at the scene.
Police suspect a friend drove O'Leary from the
scene. O'Leary then called Lafayette police and reported his car
had been stolen earlier in the evening. But eyewitnesses to the
crash later identified O'Leary as the driver.
Police said he had a blood-alcohol content of
0.14 percent, above the legal limit of 0.08 percent.
