Man arrested after Indiana 43 crash

A woman had to be freed from her car after a Sunday evening crash with a suspected drunken driver sent her down an embankment at Indiana 43 and Burnetts Road near Battle Ground.

According to the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Department:

Tanja Prljevic, 20, of St. John was driving north on Indiana 43 in a 2003 Honda Civic when her car was hit by a 1999 Chrysler driven by Gregory Lawson, 22, of West Lafayette.

Police say Lawson lost control while driving south on Indiana 43, spun into the oncoming lane and hit Prljevic's car.

Prljevic was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center for what police described as minor injuries.

Lawson, who police said had a prior drunken driving conviction, was arrested for suspicion of operating while intoxicated. He was being held in the Tippecanoe County Jail late Sunday.
