FRANKFORT -- A woman and 5-year-old girl were pinned in their vehicle Saturday after it and a pickup truck that crossed the center line collided on Indiana 39.
Tanya R. Mongonia, 30, of Frankfort and the girl were immediately flown to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Their injuries and conditions were not immediately available.
Indiana State Police did not release the child's name Saturday night because her relationship with Mongonia had not been determined.
Meanwhile, police took a blood sample from the driver suspected of causing the wreck, Roger L. Brown, 53, of Frankfort, because he smelled of alcohol, Trooper Aaron McCormick said. Brown was not injured.
"The investigation is pending on the blood draw," McCormick said Saturday night.
He said Brown was driving north on Indiana 39, near Clinton County Road 530 South, in a 1994 Dodge truck when he crossed the center line for an unknown reason about 4 p.m.
Mongonia, driving a 2006 Ford Focus and traveling south on Indiana 39, went left to avoid the oncoming truck but then went back the road. The two vehicles struck nearly head-on, McCormick said.
State police Sgt. Rich Kelly, who was heading to the Indiana State Fair to work a project there, came upon the crash.
Mongonia's Ford Focus landed on its roof in the collision, pinning the occupants, McCormick said.
Trooper Ted Robertson is investigating the wreck. The Clinton County Sheriff's also assisted.
